Spire Motorsports Great American Getaway 400 Race Report 2026
By PGORDON
Daniel Suárez led the way for Spire Motorsports with a 13th-place in the Great American Getaway 400 presented by VISITPA at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway, earning his 14th top-20 finish through the first 16 points-paying races of the NASCAR Cup Series season. Michael McDowell and Carson Hocevar rounded out a top-20 day for the team with finishes of 17th and 20th, respectively. Suárez remains eighth in points, one ahead of Hocevar in ninth, while McDowell continues to hold steady in 20th.
Suárez started Sunday's race in third, and finished sixth in Stage 1 and eighth in Stage 2 to collect a total of eight additional stage points on the day. The Monterrey, Mexico native pitted during a Lap-106 caution and managed his fuel through the final 54 laps to secure a 13th-place effort. Michael McDowell qualified the No. 71 Delaware Life Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 13th and maintained his position throughout the day to begin the final stage inside the top 10 despite battling a tight-handling condition his No. 71 Delaware Life Chevrolet. As competitors began to manage fuel mileage late in the run, the 41-year-old driver pushed forward to collected a finish of 17th. Hocevar was dealt similar balance conditions in the No. 77 Zeigler Auto Group Chevrolet, but powered to a 13th-place finish in Stage 1 after making contact with the wall during Saturday's qualifying session. A seventh-place showing in Stage 2 was followed by continued handling woes after the final green-flag stop of the day, preventing the Portage, Michigan, native from advancing past the 20th position.
The NASCAR Cup Series heads west for the Andruil 250 at Naval Base Coronado. The inaugural street-course race in San Diego takes place on Sunday, June 21 and will air on Prime at 4 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). The 17th of 36 points-paying races on the NASCAR Cup Series schedule will be broadcast live on the Motor Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90.
“We had a solid points day with the No. 7 Freeway/Roamly Chevrolet, and I’m really proud of everyone at Spire Motorsports. We scored points in both stages, stayed competitive all afternoon, and the team kept making adjustments to help me with the balance of the car. A top-15 finish isn’t exactly what we wanted, but there are a lot of positives to take from this weekend. The effort from this team has been incredible, and we’ll keep building on that momentum heading into San Diego.”
“It wasn’t a great day for this No. 71 Delaware Life Chevrolet team. I feel like we were just a little bit too tight for most of the day, especially in traffic and we spent most of those last few runs in traffic. We still have a little bit of work to do, but all-in-all, we put together a solid day. We just didn’t have the speed and the balance we needed to contend for a top 10. But we’ll regroup and get ready for the two tracks ahead that should be good for us.”
"The No. 77 team did a great job getting the Zeigler Chevrolet ready for the race after I hit the wall in qualifying. We were able to gain some track position on restarts, and did a good job executing our strategy but we were just too tight to do much more. Overall, it was a solid top-20 finish and we're still in a decent points position going into the next race where really anything can happen."
